Nothing in particular...

It's Martinmas today, the holiday I miss most since I moved away from Germany. It's about looking after one another as the winter begins. I'll light a lantern and drink sweet hot tea.
My latest book is getting to artworking stage, and I'll be spending a lot more time in the studio. My teaching spell is almost over, and I'll happily concentrate on bookmaking.
I also asked for an ipad for Christmas so I can get on with designing some narrative apps. There is much excitement ahead...
I decided that the old novel draft that I've been editing needs another part, several chapters long, to wrap it up. That's what I'll be working on tonight.

Hello.

I was just wondering what type of paper you use your inks/watercolours on? I was also wondering if you could give me some advice on character design...i'm one of these people who panics when creating a character...I feel like my style is rubbish etc. Sorry for the rambling.

Thankyou!
Hope you have a lovely evening!x

Hullo again!

I like to use fairly smooth watercolour paper (but not hot-pressed) for brush drawings and watercolour, and Daler Rowney cartridge for fountain pen and pencil drawings.

Advice:
The main thing is to draw just the way you draw instead of trying to change your style in clever ways. If you try to hard it'll just make you unhappy. Draw how you draw naturally. Then when you are enjoying yourself keep drawing, when it's not enjoyable stop and start a new drawing, try less hard. You'll notice there are loads of things you can do easily which are fun and impressive and useful, and start building on them.
Then it won't be hard to find the right reference material and make up your own exercises and experiments.
And most importantly, enjoy making mistakes. If you're making mistakes, you're probably learning! if they look hideous, you're learning REALLY HARD!

Ahh very nice :) I'm using Arches Cold Pressed at the moment. I'll give those other ones a try too!

Thankyou so much for getting back to me! I'm finding it hard without having tutors giving me constant feedback...I think I like the way i've started doing my work...I just fuss over it too much sometimes...

If you could give me any feedback on my work I would really appreciate it...I know i'm being cheeky so you can tell me to sod off if ya like as I know you're busy!
