Thunderbird's gone great!

I just upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird, thought "hey... wow!" and proceeded to archive all my email, including my own sent mails. No more huge and growing folders. Hooray!!!!
I've been manually keeping my email folders tidy for years, but still sometimes found it hard to keep track of the growing mass. Now I feel a bit like I got given a free robot assistant to deal with all my communications. Yay!

Thanks for flagging this up. I've just downloaded it and I like it too. Tho' would be nice if you could archive them in the same folders and subfolders and sub-sub-folders.

I especially like the tabs. Windows needs to have that too.

Ha! Pleasure.

Yes I was a bit reluctant to let my folder structure go, too... but now I am just relying on the search function, and finding things easier than before because I used to have to search the folders separately for some stuff. I'm also tagging mails with the names of my old folders, just out of habit...

I'm also still really pleased with setting it so that copies of my own messages go into the inbox rather than the set folder, so I can delete or archive them straight away, too...

Tags - good idea!
I've rarely used them, but would solve this problem.
And it does make the folder all pretty colours...

Totally. My most useful tag is TAXABLE, so I can still easily drag up all my receipts at the end if the year... I should have made that a prettier colour, it's kind of minty grey.

And I can now have things tagged WORK and PRIVATE at once for when I'm working with friends, or making friends with people I work with. That one never fitted right with folders!

Also: you can "star" all the really wonderful mails. Whee.
