Arrived!

Hullo! I'm in Germany, in a cold basement, on the floor, because I found one spot that gets a WiFi signal. All is well.

I shall be fixing the family computers tomorrow, and then I'll spend a week doing mostly German things, like eating bread and saying "Ja, genau!"

You sound kind of cyberpunk here, in a congenial way. The e reader looks cool! I'm so glad it has Lear's drawings visible, gives me hope. How do you find it after having it a bit?

Hah. A third computer materialised but I am keeping on top of it so far.

I love that e-reader, even though I can tell how much better they'll be soon. It's really nice looking at illustrated books actually, old black and white stuff looks lovely.
Some illustrated e-pub formats don't quite fit the screen, but PDFs and plain text formats are great. Annotation works brilliantly, and it's fun to doodle in the margins. The only thing I miss is the option to make groups of bookmarks and notes that are project specific. Then it would be absolutely awesome. I'm sure that'll all happen very soon...

Suitably, I plonked some SF on it first thing, and I've been switching happily between uncorrected proofs of my own, entertaining novels and research. It's already my second favourite gadget ever (my trusty eeepc still being number one).

Sounds great! I've been using my iPod as an e-reader and it's OK. Best suited to audiobooks and comic book. The touch screen technology works really well with comics.

Ooh that reminds me... I want some comics on this, any links?

Here are some places to start:

Top Shelf has the best all around selection of cool strips I think:

transmission X is in part a group of Canadian cartoonists, some of this stuff is really cool:

And finally there's Faith Erin Hicks whose work I just love:
