Writing Approaches...

It's mere days until I'll be staring my NaNoWriMo effort... (and you can still join! Go go go!)
I've decided to write a story about foxes, and have already been doodling and thinking and reading a book that I found in the basement of a bookshop in Charing Cross Road, "On the Trail of the Fox".

My plan is to finish the book within the month, as promised, and then get an edited draft to my publisher. I think it's time to try and sell a novel... might as well be this one! Wish me luck, and I'll be posting bits and pieces as I go! If they don't want to publish it I'll just stick it on my site as a freebie, so any way it goes you'll be reading about foxes from me sooner or later :)

foxes definitely deserve a book, and these sketches are lovely!

I always thought Reynard would be a good name for a fox character. But then maybe all french versions of nouns would make good names?!

That would be a good name! I've already called them Pebble and Tarmac in my head, which is less stylish but there you go :)

We have a road going up the hill called Fox Hill - and a side road off it is called Reynard close. It sounded quite elite, and then I realised it was just another name for a fox!

Pebble and Tarmac sound terrific!

That's so cool!

Heh, that's about all I have for NaNoWRiMo, an extensive list of names to draw from so that I don't need to lost any time making them up whenever a new character comes in :) I know that I can spend DAYS trying to finish sentences like "A boy walked down the street, his name was..."
Argh!

You're far braver than I!
(or is it me?)

This is so, so tempting! (I'm sounding uncommital, I know...)

The fox idea is intriguing! ;-)

Ooooh, give it a go :) The brilliant thing is it's only got to be the enough words - no one minds if it descends into mad ranting some days - and you can always edit it into something less mad later, it's amazing how easy it often is to extract the mad ranting bits from a novel :)

I've written novels at this rate before, it's quite possible and surprising and amazing to watch things happen as you write them... but I do admit all the ones I wrote are... hm... well I haven't edited last year's yet, I'm, a bit afraid to re-read it - but it was a great thing to do anyway. They're all locked away in cardboard folders. But it's good to know tehre are a lot of words that I've written :)

Okay, I'm in. This feels crazy!! I'm usually one to think things out forever, but that doesn't get the writing done as fast as I'd like, so what the heck?! It may be just the kick in the pants I need. Thanks for the push. :-D

BRILLIANT! Hooray! Be my writing buddy! :) Let's go!

Yes, super! :-)

Oh, silly me-- I think the buddies part of the site isn't up and running yet, at least on my end. Have you figured it out?

Viviane Schwarz said...

The site is just super-slow. I think it'll speed up as people drop off... it takes about five minutes to do anything, even update the word count, on my connection (which is fast). I haven't managed to get to may NaNoMail yet... but they said it would be like that for the first few days and then improve.

It's in the "My NaNoWriMo" section, in any case... oh, and the "word count" thingie on the main page isn't working at all yet, but the one in the "edit novel info" section is.
