decorative borders

Am designing decorative borders for this book still, to be cut in Lino eventually...
Mostly I am cutting bits off at the moment, like this part, which I still like, but it's Too Much.

I've always found ornamentation really hard to do!
It's almost tiome to go and find reference and do some copying, but I want to try for a bit longer to find what I do by myself, I'd really like it to have a feel of doodles in margins of things.

Beautiful! Love the quality of this. Is this a lino cut?

Nah, all Photoshop! I did one lino cut and then realised I should have my designs okayed first since every slab of the stuff costs as much as a hearty dinner...
It's a pencil drawing scanned and turned blue. Looks nice and hazy, doesn't it...

I might well use this sort of thing to make a fake blue-print... there's one in the book, I was planning to do it in blue pencil but I really like what the digital translation does to the smudges.

I think it looks amazing.

Try with one of your pencil drawings - might be fun! - I like changing the line colour of a pencil drawing because I think everyone has in the back of their head that you can't rub out colour pencil, so it always has this connotation that "wow, you didn't even rub anything out" :D hah!
